At the south side of Sumar is a small quarter with plots for new residences. Between this quarter and the village we designed, commissioned by Woonfriesland, a complex with 14 apartments. The main entrance is logically placed in extension of the entrance road. The entrance cuts the complex in two sections. This way the plot is totally in use. The building has a ‘head’ with 4 apartments looking towards a large pond with a public bicycleroad.
The other 10 residences are placed a bit backward to create larger front yards with a large collective green area. By placing the building somewhat higher the residences all overlook this collective green and the pavement. The frontyards are orientated south. To avoid disorganized gardens with all different shutters, a predesigned shutter is placed. The design is also used for the balcony on the first floor. This forms a visual relation between balcony and garden. A wider gallery at the northside, cut into the black volume, offers meeting space with the neighbors.
