This more-purpose building contains a workplace and a store for high quality handicraft furniture of ‘De Brugwachter’ in Leeuwarden. We strive for a reserved, modest and functional building. It has to stand out in architecture from the booth architecture of the day, like on all business areas as this one. Representative for these buildings is architecture with impressive screaming front façades. The rest of the volume gets no attention at all and there is absolutely no relation with the context.
This corner location offers the possibility to make a triangle ascending building. The highest corner points out to the bridge across the crossroad, citing to the name of the company. Two facades now face both streets. The idea is to fold the building out of the landscape. The roof is the third façade, because the garden runs up on the roof. Building and plot are one.
The building distinguishes itself without colorful facades. The building doesn’t lift itself, its respects the location. The floorplan follows the shape of the plot. The interventions on the plot have the same language as the interventions in the façade, that also forms the entrance.
The ascending sandwich-panels are partly cladded with wood to make a suggestion of the company’s ambitions. The façade itself functions as a signboard, which makes advertisement superfluous.
