Like the Dutch landscape is a palette of different rural and urban elements that evolved in history, the Holandse Brug is a compilation of different bridges build next to each other trough time. Every moment in time has its own product. The driver takes the old bridge towards the existing land, and the new bridge towards the ‘new land’, the polder.
The assignment is at local, national and international standard. Not only Almere also the national government is charmed by sustainable principles. They actively stimulate sustainable projects. The new bridge symbolizes new times with sustainability as identity witch suits the 21th century.
The Hollandse Brug marks Almere as city of the future, connects old with new land, and has to blend in in the green surroundings. The expressive rafters are visible from great distance. The view of the driver changes continuously. It changes from the framed views over Gooi- and Ijlake to the openness in front or after the bridge where the view is optimal.
The driveway above is experienced by the driver, traveler by train and biker. Underneath a new space is generated for the vacationer, watersportsfan and nature-lover.
