Three sides of the plot adjoins to water. The rural elements in this new quarter mainly formed the restrictions for this residence. The residence is compact and looks like an organism rising from the ground. The ‘head’ of the residence cantilevers v=from the main volume and ‘overlooks’ the water. The inviting entrance sticks out as a ‘tail’. The back makes a barrier between the public bicycle road and the private garden, in the armpit of the residence.
The commissioner wanted an open, transparent house, but also privacy. All the functions are connected in an engaging way and where possible in an open form as one fluent space. Privacy is created by closing the façade towards the street. The residence is folded around an inner garden. The adjacent glass windows at this side can all be opened without loosing privacy. This transparency gives a beautiful view over the water.
