The ‘Holle Poarte’ is a recreation park in Makkum which lies alongside the Ijselmeer. The park consists of a camping, recreation-dwellings and a yacht-harbour with all recreational functions needed. The new residence will be of the owner of the park.
The design is part of a larger plan. The terrain, the Suderseewei, between the harbor and the main entrance will be upgraded. Up until now only the residence is realized. The residence consists of two volumes. The first a closed monolith of concrete, the other an open light, transparent wooden volume. The monolith functions as a wall towards the street, it facilitates the residence with kitchen, bathroom, laundry, garage and storage.
The concrete part rises from the pond. The wooden part hangs above the water and contains the livingroom, bedrooms and the music-room. Because of the orientation we designed a double the façade with glass and a wooden front, this way privacy, daylight and sunlight can be manipulated. Behind the the first layer, the wooden façade, a zone is created for the stairs and the terrace.
The residence manifests as an autonomous object, comparable with the other object-like volumes in the area. Even though the residence shows similarities with the yacht-harbor.
