Seven residences will complete the corner between the Doelestraat and Groeneweg. A public path behind the block separates the collective courtyard and the public garden Princessehof. This plan was a contribution in the manifestation ‘Kloppend Hart’, an initiative from municipality Leeuwarden. The goal was to upgrade this part of the city center.
The plan contributes by adding new public spaces to the program. A new connection evolves between the Prinsentuin and the Princessehof. This adds a new front to the museum on this side of the city-center. The Residences together with a ‘ Groen café’ completes the façade of the Groeneweg. At the same time the new functions strengthen the city dynamics by adding accessibility and public space with positive character.
The residences are raised above street level on the parking garage underneath. This way the residences have more stature like the buildings across the street. The architecture, the rhythmicity of the facades and the proportions contribute to a secure fitting in the surrounding context. The facades on the inside of the block can be individually directed, the roof and and the ground level will maintain the context.
Water will be collected for use in the collective garden. Pv-cells will provide the residences with electricity and a collective system provides in warmth/cooling.
The program, living, working and recreation, match perfectly with the characteristics of the inner city. Together with the projects high potential it contributes perfectly to the quality of the city-live. Also a theme in the manifestation of ‘Kloppend Hart’.
