This is a city-planning and architecture assignment fort he project ‘The big Island’ in Almere. We and four other architects were invited to make a plan. The assignment is to make designs for beach houses, villa’s, coupled residences and residences in front and in the water in this new elevated island.
The other architects have the same assignment. This way a catalogue is created from which costumers can choose. Within each design the buyer will have some space to create a unique house. We wanted to reach an optimum with the quality of the surrounding water. Openness and a sense of freedom is reached by transparency and by using the right natural materials in the architecture. All the residences have a flexible floorplan and can be expanded.
As was asked, the preliminary design of all plans were joined in a book. From the different types the main design was presented, this then can be completed with diverse smaller or bigger variants. Our goal is to translate the beautiful context of the surroundings into the construction, the floorplans and expression of the residents. The experience from the outside inside the house and vice versa is equal. All residences have large terraces, porches, loggias, balcony’s, to create openness and an intensive relation between inside and outside.
This design is made in context of the manifestation ‘Kloppend Hart’. It’s an exploration how to connect public spaces inside as well outside. This complex, which houses different social facilities, […]
