At the north-side of Sneek lies an area where in past times trading took place by boat. Goenga is a little town in this area, just outside Goenga the historical farm is located. Eventually the subject was to build a new barn behind the historical house, to expand the house and to store a few sailing boats. The house has a fortune of historic details dating from the 18th century. After research the house had to be restored completely, with historical elements like tiles, beams and the old milk cellar.

The barn behind the house burnt down a few years earlier. The ‘head-neck-trunk’ shape of the complex needed to be restored. The new stable has the exact measurements as the former stable. We used a hybrid construction with wooden columns and steel frames. Largest part was cladded with corrugated Eternit. For the corner details, of the top and the roof-gutter, standard products could be used. On two places the volume is cut to make room for a passage and a patio. The patio creates maximum view from the new kitchen and brings light in the other rooms until the back of the barn. With nice weather the patio can be opened. The roof of the barn encloses the kitchen, bedrooms, an office and a hobbyspace. The interior is partly climated, the hobbyspace and storage for boats and cars has no isolation. The patio is the center of the plan and is southwest orientated.
