These apartments are intended for persons with a light form of mental disability. They can live partly on their own. The floorplan is uniform but expandable in the future. Two units can be combined, depending what the future will bring.
There is a functional relation between the farm and the daycare. They are connected by footpaths. Also the relation can be found in the used building materials. The fence of the daycare is extended and used in this part of the project. The Groningse brick, like the farm and the ground floor houses, is used for the façade. This makes a fine relation with the surrounding buildings and embed with the place.
The contour of the plan is based on that of the former silo. The apartments are twisted from one another round a center point. The walls aren’t parallel to each other they are staggered. This way every apartment has his own private garden with an unique view. At the other side the apartments have a view over to the goats, sheep and chickens. In the center of the facing units the main entrance is organized. This due to the wish of the caregivers, they wanted short distances between the different apartments. The center square is also used as a communal space. Rural images and familiar experiences go together with the new home care program.
