In the post-war quarter Bilgaard a new neighborhood had to appear that had a better connection with the beautiful green waterfront of the Dokkumer Ee. The new part is designed as a wedge-shaped transition area between the quarter en the public green area, this way the connection is made in which the former strict cityplan never succeeded. The whole idea is to ignore the existing strict cityplan and embrace the values of the nature. In this plan the dwellings are situated at a new nature park-like area.
The new cityplan presumes of transitions on different levels: Between the quarter and river, between existing quarter and the new neighborhood, the neighborhood and the street, between the street and garden and between the inside and outside of the dwellings. This way we deviate from the anonymous building blocks in the existing quarter, where the blocks have their back entrances orientated on street level. The new neighborhood is developed to make a friendly and recognizable image. The answers to this image we found in the traditional and expressive architecture of the ’20 and the ’30. The dwellings are developed for rental and sale market.
Cooperation: AchterboschZantman architecten designed this plan in cooperation with TWA architects.
